Straighten Your Teeth with Discreet, Comfortable Invisalign®
Although traditional braces are a reliable method to address misalignment and other issues, many patients prefer a more discreet alternative. Invisalign®, available at Dr. Andrew J. Kuhlberg's Avon, CT, practice, utilizes clear aligners to gently straighten crooked or gapped teeth. We offer the traditional system, as well as Invisalign® Teen and Invisalign® Express. For the right patients, these options can easily be incorporated into your daily routine for a straighter, healthier smile.
A board-certified orthodontic specialist, Dr. Kuhlberg holds patients to strict candidacy standards. The longevity and quality of your results come first, so he will never recommend Invisalign® unless he thinks it is right for you.
How Invisalign® Works
Invisalign® aligners look similar to teeth-whitening trays and come in a series. Each tray will have a slightly different shape to gently exert pressure on your teeth, shifting them into proper position. Aligners are made of a smooth, BPA-free plastic that is molded to slip comfortably over your entire row of upper or lower teeth. In order to create your customized appliances, we will take x-rays, digital impressions, and photographs of your smile. This information will be used to design your treatment plan and create your custom-fit aligners. You can also view a virtual representation of how your teeth will be realigned throughout various stages of treatment.
Once your aligners are created, you can begin wearing your first set. You will need to wear the aligners 20-22 hours each day and switch to a new set roughly every two weeks. You will return to our office every six weeks or so to monitor progress and answer any concerns that come up. Once you achieve your final results, you can continue wearing your final aligner at night or your doctor may recommend a different type of retainer.
Weighing Invisalign® against Other Options
Many of our patients choose Invisalign® over metal braces due to several benefits:
- Aesthetics: The clear aligners are nearly invisible during use
- Convenience: Because the aligners are removable, you can brush and floss like you normally would and continue to enjoy all your favorite foods
- Comfort: The smooth plastic will not snag or irritate sensitive soft tissue in the mouth
A board-certified orthodontic specialist, Dr. Kuhlberg holds patients to strict candidacy standards in order to achieve the best results. The longevity and quality of your results come first, so he will never recommend Invisalign® unless he is confident it is right for you. This option can generally be used to treat the same types of concerns as other orthodontics, such as minor to moderate gaps, overlapping or crooked teeth, overbite, and underbite. For more severe or complex cases, Dr. Kuhlberg may decide that traditional braces or orthognathic surgery are necessary.
A Focus on Patient Education
Our practice places a huge emphasis on patient education. Once you decide that Invisalign® is right for you, Dr. Kuhlberg will discuss exactly what you can expect during treatment. You will discuss average treatment timelines, how long you can expect to spend in the aligners, and treatment cost and financing options. We offer no-interest financing options for qualified patients. Because the aligners are removable, Dr. Kuhlberg will also discuss the importance of patient compliance and ensure you understand your role in ensuring satisfactory results.

“Very friendly warm and compassionate. They educated my son on how to care for his braces, what foods to avoid, how to clean and most of all, they are there even during any emergency including weekends. I highly recommend this Orthodontic practice to anyone who want a personal, friendly one on one relationship with their doctor.” Thu M.
